Professor of International Studies and author of a biography recently launched in Abuja, titled: “Muhammadu Buhari: The challenges of leadership in Nigeria,” Prof. John Paden, has said that Boko Haram insurgents had demanded €5bn (N1.7trillion) from the Federal Government as ransom for the release of the abducted Chibok school girls.
Paden disclosed that the President Buhari-led federal government rejected the demand
In the book, Paden said: “An additional issue was the status of the Chibok girls. Secret negotiations had been held regarding an exchange of Boko Haram prisoners for the girls.
President Muhammadu Buhari is enmeshed in a fresh plagiarism scandal that shows him stealing the famous “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody” quote from the late Charles de Gaulle of France.
The quote, which was smuggled into President Buhari’s May 29, 2015 inauguration speech, received a lot of commendation from Nigerians across political and religious divides. The quote immediately went viral and was listed by the BBC as the best quote out of Africa for the year 2015.
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has urged the Federal Government to declare Nigeria’s economic recession a national emergency.
This is contained in a three-point communiquÃ© read by the Chairman of the Forum and Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari in Abuja on Friday.
The governors also urged the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency tackle the resurgence in polio and Lassa fever.
The governors had also resolved to support the Federal Government to continue to ‘reflate’ the nation’s economy out of the present crisis.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the country’s power generation has increased from 3,810 megawatts recorded on Sept. 8, 2016 to 4,285.90 megawatts on Friday.
The power generation record was reported in the website of “Nigerian Electricity System Operator’’ on Friday.
TCN said that 4,285.90 megawatts was the total output by power generation companies, and had been transferred to the 11 distribution companies across the country.
Electricity generation in the country has been stable in the last two months, rising from about 2, 983 megawatts to over 4, 000 megawatts.

President Buhari launched the campaign September 8 to mixed reviews with many Nigerians pointing out faults, as journalist Adeola Akinremi accusing Buhari of plagiarising a 2008 speech from Barack Obama.
Akinremi said that plagiarism was not a trivial matter especially when Buhari was launching a campaign that encouraged honesty and integrity from the Nigerian people and government officials.
