– President Muhammadu Buhari has been caught up in a fresh scandal after being accused of plagiarising US President Barack Obama in a speech to launch his national re-orientation campaign “Change begins with me”,
President Buhari launched the campaign September 8 to mixed reviews with many Nigerians pointing out faults, as journalist Adeola Akinremi accusing Buhari of plagiarising a 2008 speech from Barack Obama.
Akinremi said that plagiarism was not a trivial matter especially when Buhari was launching a campaign that encouraged honesty and integrity from the Nigerian people and government officials.

Buhari is accused of directly copying certain passages from Obama’s 2008 victory speech after being elected as the first black president in US history.
One direct example of a paragraph copied by Buhari contains the following text: “We must resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship, pettiness and immaturity that have poisoned our country for so long. Let us summon a new spirit of responsibility, spirit of service, of patriotism and sacrifice, Let us all resolve to pitch in and work hard and look after, not only ourselves but one another, What the current problem has taught us is that we cannot have a thriving army of rent seekers and vested interests, while the majority suffers.”
Obama used these exact words at a rally in Chicago after being declared the winner of the 2008 presidential elections.
